Corona Virus-the name has been making rounds on the internet and is the topic of discussion amongst everybody in the world for more than couple of months.
The disease gained a status of Pandemic after taking a toll on numerous lives across the globe and leaving many in desperate situation fighting the disease alone.
The virus had not arrived in India till then.
But it was not too late when India reported its first casualty of the virus.
While it had already hit 5 WHO regions, China, Italy and the Republic of South Korea were the worst hit.
The numerous cases that sprung up one after another with no end in sight had taught us that the only way to stop the virus from spreading and protecting our loved ones was to break its contagious chain.
And with the aim to achieve this the Government of India and other states started taking measures to reduce the mass gathering at places.
In effect many educational institutions were asked to close down and suspend their activities till further notice.
In immediate response, concerning the urgency of the matter, the educational institutions started closing their operations.
MAAC Chowringhee, Rashbehari and Ultadanga, keeping the security of students as a priority also suspended classes at the center on 15th March, 2020.
But the students and their parents had concerns regarding the classes they were going to miss during the crisis period where students would observe social distancing at their respective homes.
The issue kept running at the back of our minds and we were determined to seek a solution to this.
With the gravity of the scenario looming in front of us we were not able to see any definitive end to the pandemic situation.
The uninterrupted delivery of class to our students was our top most concern.
In this time our Research and Development Team began formulating an action plan to be able to remotely deliver classes to the students on a regular basis.
With a few trials and errors, an immediate meeting was scheduled with the management of MAAC centers throughout India.
MAAC Online classes were implement with the help of Google Classroom coupled with Google Hangouts to deliver online remote classes to students in the safety of their homes.
The system became functional and all the student details were collected and integrated in the system.
Soon the students received the invites to their respective classrooms.
No sooner had they received the invites; the center was flooded with queries of students regarding the new system.
We the management of MAAC Chowringhee, Rashbehari and Ultadanga strived to make things easier and smooth for the students.
So, we explained the entire procedure to the students while conducting a few trial classes to check the efficacy of the system we had newly installed in place.
The students were new to the medium and were willing to explore it.
Although few students faced network issues in their area, but were quite excited about it.
The students expressed their gratitude to the faculties and the management members who worked day and night to salvage the situation, which was getting worse day by day, by trying to reach out to them.
The grateful words kept us going as the situation took a turn for the worse.
With the numbers of Covid-19 cases increasing every day, our Prime minister urged the country to impose “Janata Curfew” and practice social distancing on 22nd March, 2020.
It was then onwards that the situation took a difficult direction and people realized that moving ahead was going to be tougher.
Looking at the situation, our Director Mr. Naveen Choudhary, took the initiative, keeping in mind the safety of the students and staff members, and started conducting online delivery of classes from home.
Some of the training team members did not have the required setup to properly conduct classes from home and so he offered hardware resources for smooth flow of the classes to them.
Now with things in place,we were totally prepared to observe “Janata Curfew” on the 22nd March, 2020 and announced that from 23rd March onwards the classes will be taken via MAAC Online Class mode by all the faculty members from their respective homes.
Coincidently there was an announcement declaring a complete lockdown, pan India from 23rd onwards on Sunday itself.
The announcement was accompanied by the information of the upcoming situation and how critical it was to stay indoors to avoid getting infected and to stop the infection to spread to somebody else this was termed as “Social Distancing’.
The complete lockdown was to last for 21 days from thence, and in order to stop people from panicking it was assured that the supply of essential commodities and services would not be stopped.
So, with foresight and early preparation we were fully equipped to handle the situation with ease and continue uninterrupted delivery of classes to our students.
Everyone could reach out to each other from the comfort of their homes and the same could be said for all the students, faculties and management of MAAC Chowringhee, Rashbehari and Ultadanga.
A few days into the new system we received quite a good response from the students and their parents who even commended us for our quick response and magnificent effort.
The students enjoyed the new way of learning and were quickly able to adapt to the pace.
“The remote delivery session is a great help to students in this crisis where none of us are able to get out of our homes and are constantly under the fear of the pandemic reaching us”.
