The main protagonist is the Chris Pratt, a construction worker.
The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part is a adventurous computer generated animated comedy film produced by Warner Animation Group.
It is the fourth Lego film after The Lego Movie, The Lego Batman Movie and The Lego Ninjago Movie.
Development of The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part
Animation director Trisha Gum created the genuine film’s design aesthetic and narrative of mini-figures for awesome adventure.
Trisha Gum focussed on story development until the film was complete; she worked with the team on storyboard and gave emphasis on emotional as well as funny side of the plot.
Production designer Patrick Hanenberger built the whole new world for the characters.
Trisha Gum divided her time into story to production design to layout and to animation.
The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part presented 11 new worlds to the audience including mysterious Systar System, Harmony town and Planet DUPLO.
The main plot started when the general Mayhem kidnaps Batman and several other Emmet’s friends for a mysterious matrimonial ceremony.
About 79 types of different colours including brand-new vibrant Coral were applied on 3, 433 different brick types used to bring 523 different characters to life.
In the film Emmet, Lucy and Batman faced a new threat from the DUPLO invaders from the outer space; the heroes of the Bricksburg Emmet, Lucy, Batman reunites to save their beloved city.
DC live action actors Jason Momoa, Gal Gadot and Margot Robbie gave voices to the mini-figure version of their comic book characters.
To defeat the invaders Emmet and his friends went to unexplored world; a strange galaxy where everything is musical.
The strange world will test their courage, creativity and building skills.
Emmet and his ultra-cool partner Rex Dangervest rescued their friends before they start living in an adorable world of glitter, pop music and vampires ruled by Queen Watevra Wa’Nabi.
The filmmakers wanted more than one energetic female character with unique and different goals, emotions and interests.
“Coming up with new story ideas and characters was challenging but exciting at the same time” said by Trisha Gum.
The animation team depended upon the same minimalistic style of limited character movement as used in the previous LEGO feature films.
Brick by brick every characters, vehicle and set were digitally constructed with the help of brick library during the set design.
Every set and character had physical limitations with certain hair moulds and face rigs.
The screenplay was written by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller; they added humour for the adult crowd in the script.
For the new character of Queen Watevra Wa’Nabi (shape-shifting alien queen of the systar system) and Sweet Mayhem animation team worked on new wigs and faces.
Queen Watevra Wa’Nabi had no identified shape.
It was a challenge for the animation team to make shape-shifting character more appealing and authentic by animation.
Voiced by Tiffany Haddish Queen Watevra Wa’Nabi was the ruler of the Systar System
She was just like a pile of bricks, she could be turned into any shape but the challenge was to use only those bricks that was already in her body.
It was amazing to see different shape of her body.
Stephanie Beatriz gave voice as Sweet Mayhem, a mini-doll and a general of the Systar System Army; she works under the orders of Queen Watevra Wa’Nabi.
Within the movie one of the mini-figures is based on Supreme Court justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
Animation director Trisha Gum announced that as the mini-figures had simple facial structure so facial animation was done carefuly.
Animating them was quite easy, emotions were conveyed through simple eye movements or simple furrowing of a brow.
Sometimes simple eye movement or a blink can be more effective than million of facial expressions and in this movie animators worked on simple effects rather than complex.
The simplicity of the mini-figures movement and their limitation actually made them super charming.
For the musical number; choreographers mimicked how mini-figures would move because the mini-dolls had the limitations in feet movement and wrist rotations.
The narrative of movie The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part started as the Finn’s toddler sister Bianca plays with DUPLO blocks and tries to take over Bricksburg.
The animation team explored multiple design styles for each play-set within Bianca’s room (Systar System) and used fewer frames as in-betweening.
Brooklynn prince gave the voice for Bianca, Finn’s younger sister; due to her aliens from the planet DUPLO attacked Bricksburg.
Bianca plays with Lego but also likes mixed media as most little girls.
The sky and water in the Systar System were created using fabrics.
Director Mike Mitchell gave credits to Trisha Gum, Patrick Hanenberger and Dave Burgess for giving different look to Bianca’s play planets.
The characters of this film are funny, weird and creative; no doubt they will win the heart of audience.
The soundtrack has the songs like ‘Everything is Awesome’ and ‘Catchy Song’.
The songs of this movie was composed by Mark Mothersbaugh and sung by T-Pain.
This film was dedicated to Charie Miller (mother of Christopher Miller) who died on December 2018 before the release of the film.
