Hello friends, I am again back with the most happening news at MAAC Kolkata. Deepawali (also called diwali) is a festival of lights and is celebrated to honor Lord Rama Chandra (the seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu). It is believed that on this day Lord Rama returned to his kingdom after 14 years of exile, during which he fought and won the battle against demons and demon king, Ravana.
People lit their houses to celebrate his victory over evil. As a part of festival preparations, people clean up their houses, buy new clothes, pay off their old debts, exchange gifts, burn fire crackers, and prepare festive meals. Buildings are traditionally illuminated with oil burning bowls called Diyas.
Diyas are made of hardened clay with a cotton wick dipped in ghee or vegetable oil. It is used temporarily as lighting the houses and temples. Diyas are native to India and is often used by Indians in their religious festivals like Diwali.
On this very auspicious occasion of Deepawali, MAAC Chowringhee, MAAC Kankurgachi, MAAC Rashbehari organized an in-house Diya Design Competition. The respective centres provided the clay diyas to the students to design them and show their creativity.
It held for two days – 26th October 2016 and 27th October 2016. All the students actively took part in the event and were very glad to participate in this activity. The students made wonderful designs by adding different colors to the clay bowls. Please look on the pictures below to see their artistic work.
