As the city of Kolkata comes alive in celebration of Durga Puja every autumn, MAAC Kakurgachi too enlivens itself around the start of the Puja season with a grand exhibition to showcase the work of its students from year-round.

The sound of the dhaak so closely associated with the festival of Durga Puja calls to mind lines from Rabindranath Tagore’s Sahaj Paath, which in turn brings up vivid mental images of green paddy fields, straw-thatched mud huts and a river trickling sonorously by. This led to the rustic theme of ‘Sahaj Paath and Graam Bangla’. The students decorated the rooms with symbols of village life such as the shiuli flower (made with such materials as spoons and straws) and illustrated episodes and passages from Tagore’s beloved children’s book.

The morning of 3rd October sees the centre bustling with the student team who have been keeping busy over the past several weeks in preparation for the event. In keeping with the traditional flavor of the event, everyone is dressed in traditional Indian attire as last-minute preparations are completed for the inauguration. Our esteemed director, Mr. Naveen Choudhary, and his father arrived at the Kakurgachi centre in the afternoon and formally inaugurated the event with the lighting of a diya lamp and an inspiring speech.

After touring the exhibition and getting better acquainted with those who had showcased their works and creativity, Naveen Sir informed all those present that there is a new peer-based facility in the website for students to share their technical work-related queries and get responses and suggestions from fellow students.

Following this, there was a prize distribution where students were given their awards from competitions held over the past few months and appreciated for their work. There were many guests among students’ friends and relatives, everybody enjoyed the day at its optimum level and the day was a wonderful success.
