One would have been living in total isolation for the past seven years if he\/she hasn\u2019t taken notice of an animation<\/a> revolution \u00a0called\u00a0Chhota Bheem\u2013 a show created by Rajiv Chilaka of Green Gold Animation for children\u2019s television channel Pogo<\/a> \u2013 that has taken the children\u2019s entertainment industry by storm.<\/p>\n

\"animation<\/p>\n

Chhota Bheem\u00a0Premiered in 2008 on\u00a0Pogo TV<\/a>.<\/p>\n

It focuses on adventures of a boy named Bheem and his friends in the fictional kingdom of Dholakpur.[1]<\/a><\/p>\n

In this series, Bheem and his friends are usually involved in protecting the kingdom of Dholakpur and its king, Raja Indravarma, from various evil forces.<\/p>\n

Sometimes they also help other kingdoms.<\/p>\n

It is among one of the most popular animated cartoon <\/a>series for children in India.<\/p>\n

The entire show is created in 2D Animation<\/a> using a Flash pipeline, thus giving the entire look a very seamless flow and design.<\/p>\n

The costumes, characters and sets are very neatly created and have their own distinctive qualities which go onto enhance the viewing experience of the kid audience.<\/p>\n

The show\u2019s bullies \u2013\u00a0Kalia,\u00a0based on the evil\u00a0Duryodhan,\u00a0and his cronies,\u00a0Dholu\u00a0and\u00a0Bholu\u00a0\u2013 are distinctly darker in shade than any of the show\u2019s more positive characters.<\/p>\n

Thus, the makers are also shedding light on the fact that the world is filled with both good and evil and its one\u2019s choice of which side he\/she would like to be on.<\/p>\n

The backgrounds (BGs) showcase some great scenic beauty of India, which not only resonates with the domestic audience but also encourages a global audience to sit up and take notice of the diversity in the Indian geography.<\/p>\n

The colorful costumes, justifying the various characters on the show are also something worth commending.<\/p>\n

A kid between the ages 6-12 years will always prefer to watch vibrant colours over dull or something with lesser colours, thus the makers have learnt from their earlier television<\/a> outings and acclimatised to the tastes and viewing habits of their audience; which in turn has contributed in gaining further popularity among its target audience.<\/p>\n

Rajiv Chilaka, in a few of his interviews, has likened himself to the next Walt Disney <\/a>and believes that his Chhota Bheem franchise to be a bigger crowd-puller and money-spinner than even the\u00a0Indian Premier League<\/p>\n

Chilaka has come a long way considering he had no connection to either the film or the television industry.<\/p>\n

After heading to the US for his Masters in Engineering at the University of Missouri, he realised he wanted to do something else.<\/p>\n

He had an inclination towards storytelling but felt his strengths were a mix of technology and creativity.<\/p>\n

So, he came to the conclusion that animation is where he can succeed.<\/p>\n

One day, struggling with creating a more lucrative series, Chilaka thought about his favorite\u2019s character in the\u00a0Mahabharata, Bheem,\u00a0and thought of creating a younger version of him.<\/p>\n

But a pilot along with six developed episodes failed to get Turner\u2019s Cartoon Network<\/a> and the Disney network<\/a>\u2019s.<\/p>\n

He then decided to re-do \u00a0the look and feel of\u00a0Chhota Bheem\u00a0\u2013 after becoming somewhat \u00a0successful \u00a0with his other ventures with Turner in the meanwhile \u2013 and re-pitched it to Turner.<\/p>\n

It got picked up as part of Turner\u2019s\u00a0Desi Toons\u00a0(indigenous cartoons<\/a>) series to localise more content.<\/p>\n

Which eventually went to Pogo? In three years, it became the top-rated kids show in India and still continues great viewership.<\/p>\n

Characters<\/u><\/strong> \u2013 Bheem, Chutki, Raju, Jaggu, Dolu, Bholu and Kalia.<\/span><\/p>\n

While Chutki is a simple and cute \u00a0girl, Raju is an sweet little boy without any hair on his head and a small frame.<\/p>\n

Jaggu the monkey is as popular as the others and Kalia is made fun of by the kids for his stupid antics. Bholu and Dolu are the little assistants of Kalia.<\/p>\n

Laddoo<\/u><\/strong> \u2013 The Laddoos made by one of the character, Tun Tun Mausi, also Chutki\u2019s mom, are a great hit.<\/span><\/p>\n

Kids love it when Bheem pops one of those delicious looking laddoos, becomes stronger to fight goons and succeeds.<\/p>\n

The concept derived from world famous Popeye eating spinach in the popeye show is every bit well received.<\/p>\n

Friendship<\/u><\/strong> \u2013 The friendship showcased between the characters spreads a message of bonding to children.<\/span><\/p>\n

The main characters always stand united, despite the many differences that crop sometimes.<\/p>\n

This is a direct thought given to the children about giving importance to the value of friends in life.<\/p>\n

Point Four<\/strong><\/p>\n

Good Wins Over The Bad<\/u><\/strong> \u2013 Bheem and his friends always end up fighting the evil at the end of each episode.<\/span><\/p>\n

Every story that has been created shows the hidden message underneath that good always prevails over the bad.<\/p>\n

Something that is well taught to the kids in the form of animation<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Point Five<\/strong><\/p>\n

Moral Stories<\/u><\/strong> \u2013 Most of the stories penned for the Chhota Bheem are morally backed.<\/span><\/p>\n

There is always a strong moral message given along with the entertainment and fun.<\/p>\n

Chhota Bheem is also well known to the elders and the parents in the family, thanks to his rising popularity.<\/p>\n

If there are a few lessons that one can learn from this brilliantly crafted animated character<\/a> and series, they would be: honesty, wit and boldness; never be jealous; stay united; be content; be considerate, generous and courteous; always stay calm and composed; be alert; have a sportsman spirit and have a sense of humour, among many others.<\/p>\n
