The fictional Superhero character<\/a> Spider-Man has been adapted into various media including television shows, films, toys, stage shows, books, and video games.<\/p>\n

Animated cartoon series<\/a> of Spiderman has been adapted to television many times.<\/p>\n

Spider-Man first appeared into American Comic Books<\/a> published by Marvel Comics<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In the stories of \u2018Spider-Man\u2019 Peter Parker an orphan high school student raised by his Aunt Mary and Uncle Ben in New York City, after his parents Richard and Mary Parker were killed in a plane crash.<\/p>\n

Within the story, Peter Parker acquires spider-related abilities after a bite from a radioactive spider; abilities like clinging to surfaces, shooting spider-webs from wrist-mounted devices and detecting danger with his \u201cspider-sense\u201d.<\/p>\n

Spider-Man\u2019s enemies are Doctor Octopus, Green Goblin and Venom.<\/p>\n

The first animated<\/a> cartoon series of \u2018Spider-Man\u2019 ran on television from 1967-1970.<\/p>\n

With the creation of the animation studio<\/a> \u2018Marvel Productions Ltd\u2019<\/a> in 1981, Marvel started to translate more of their comic characters to television.<\/p>\n

The 2Dimensional animated cartoon series \u2018Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends\u2019 was created for NBC in 1981, featuring Spider-Man, Iceman of the X-Men and a new character Firestar.<\/p>\n

\"Spider-Man<\/p>\n

In 1994 \u2018Spider-Man\u2019 animated series<\/a> was made for the Fox Network, this was the longest Spider-Man series with 65 episodes in five seasons.<\/p>\n

To recreate New York City\u2019s appearance background illustrators undertook a large amount of visual research by using photo archives from above New York City, particularly rooftops.<\/p>\n

Buildings were reproduced faithfully and Maps were consulted for references.<\/p>\n

The animation artists were directed to populate the city with cars and crowds on the street level.<\/p>\n

Animation artists used traditional Cel based animation<\/a> while occasionally using CGI<\/a> backgrounds by\u00a0Kronos Digital Entertainment<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In 2003, Spider-Man: The New Animated Series was launched on MTV, using 3Dimensional Computer Generated Imagery (CGI) rendered in Cel Shading.<\/p>\n

CGI was produced by Mainframe Entertainment<\/a>.<\/p>\n

After that came \u2018The Spectacular Spider-Man\u2019 in 2008, \u2018Ultimate Spider-Man\u2019 in 2012 on Disney XD<\/a> and \u2018Spider-Man\u2019 in 2017 both of them were CGI<\/a> animated television series.<\/p>\n

Recently made \u2018Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse\u2019 (2018) is the first animated feature film directed by Bob Persichetti<\/a>, Peter Ramsey and Rodney Rothman.<\/p>\n

In\u00a0the film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Miles Morales becomes one of many Spider-Men as they team up to save\u00a0New York City<\/a>\u00a0from\u00a0Kingpin<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Miles Morales is a teenager who first appeared in \u2018Ultimate Fallout\u2019<\/a> (2011) after the death of Peter Parker.<\/p>\n

Producer Phil Lord and Christopher Miller wanted the film to have its own unique style, combining\u00a0Sony Pictures Image-works<\/a>‘ computer animation pipeline with traditional hand-drawn comic book<\/a> techniques inspired by the work of Miles Morales’s co-creator\u00a0Sara Pichelli<\/a><\/p>\n

Sara Pichelli\u00a0is the illustrator<\/a> of the\u00a0Miles Morales<\/a>\u00a0in the version of\u00a0\u2018Ultimate<\/a> Spider–<\/a>Man\u2019.<\/p>\n

The Filmmakers of this film broke the traditional CG rules and developed a new, unique visual language, rich in stylistic elements, shapes, colours and movement, where the hand of the artist is visible in every frame.<\/p>\n

Hand-drawn line works were added on top of 3d characters<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\"Spider-Man<\/p>\n

Artists developed a line-drawing system in Houdini and tied it into Maya<\/a>.<\/p>\n

They created two types of lines: Lines of acting and emotion and lines of form.<\/p>\n

The line-drawing system could convert these hand-drawn lines into geometry curves that can be animate like any other rigged geometry.<\/p>\n

At the initial development stage, the directors worked with a single animator<\/a> to establish the look of the film.<\/p>\n

Later the number of animators grew more than 140, the largest crew ever used by Sony Pictures<\/a> Animation for a film.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Computer Generated I<\/a>magery (CGI) animation<\/a> for the film was combined with \u2018line work and painting and dots and all sorts of comic book techniques\u2019 to make it look like it was created by hand.<\/p>\n

Different comic styles were reproduced throughout the film for the different characters, with Spider-Gwen’s animation<\/a> based on the designs in her comics, Spider-Man Noir having a black-and-white colour scheme, and Spider-Ham being designed as “cartoony” as possible.<\/p>\n

The crew looked at comics, illustrations, and 2D animation<\/a> for inspiration, and borrowed a 2D trick by animating the film on 2s instead of 1s (12 frames per second and not 24 frames per second) to remove the motion blur and get snappier poses.<\/p>\n

The team found new ways to handle fast camera pans without using motion blur and to create new types of lensing effects consistent with illustration not realism.<\/p>\n

According to the Animation Director Joshua Beveridge<\/a>, the team wanted their own language for different animation styles and different universe.<\/p>\n

Their biggest challenge was to create balance between \u2018cartoony look and realistic look\u2019.<\/p>\n

Danny Dimian<\/p>\n

The animation team led by Visual Effects<\/a> Supervisor Danny Dimian, took cues from old, rudimentary printing processes.<\/p>\n

The team limited their colour palette and used an inker\u2019s technique<\/a> called half-toning, in which dots and patterns of colour in different sizes convey shade and light.<\/p>\n

Inspired by old screen-printed comics, Dimian used hatching and half-toning techniques in the render and in compositing.<\/p>\n

For the numerous shots of explosions, blasts, fire, and spark, 2D style<\/a> effects were added.<\/p>\n

The greatest factor for the animation team was to create Miles Morales, an Afro-Latino teenage superhero<\/a> and the team also created wide range of styles for the supporting Spidery characters.<\/p>\n

\"Spider-Man<\/p>\n

The cloth simulations<\/a> on characters\u2019 wardrobe proved particularly challenging when animation was done on 2s.<\/p>\n

To achieve kind of continuous motion of the clothing, Imageworks had to run an in-between.<\/p>\n

A ghost in-between frame was used which the audience cannot see and is not animated<\/a>, but it allows the simulation to actually be continuous.<\/p>\n

Imageworks had to write Software to allow those simulations to occur despite the non-continuous motion, and for the ghost frames to be removed.<\/p>\n

This film has grossed over $278 million worldwide against a $90 million budget, and was praised for its animation,<\/a> characters, story, voice acting, humour, and soundtrack.<\/p>\n

The film won\u00a0Best Animated Feature Film<\/a>\u00a0at the\u00a076th Golden Globe Awards<\/a>, and earned numerous other awards and nominations.<\/p>\n
