steps involved in re-creating <a href=\"https:\/\/animationkolkata.com\/blog\/2016\/07\/16\/24-fps-vfx-challenge-preparation-we-are-ready\/\">24 FPS <\/a>VFX<a href=\"https:\/\/animationkolkata.com\/blog\/2016\/07\/16\/24-fps-vfx-challenge-preparation-we-are-ready\/\"> Challenge<\/a> 2018 short film based on original film Star War: The Last Jedi.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.animationkolkata.com\/blog\/2019\/02\/06\/ilm-enliven-the-last-jedi\/\">Star War: The Last Jedi<\/a> is American space Opera film written and directed by Rian Johnson made in 2017.<\/p>\n<p>Our MAAC Chowringhee students have selected few shots from the Original film of Star War: The Last Jedi and recreated those shots using techniques like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.animationkolkata.com\/blog\/2018\/03\/16\/secret-attributes-chroma-keying\/\">Chroma Key<\/a> and different <a href=\"https:\/\/animationkolkata.com\/blog\/2017\/11\/17\/latest-techniques-trends-used-vfx\/\">Visual effects and Animation techniques<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Let us look at the VFX short film made by the over the Green screen for the effect of Chroma-Key.<\/p>\n<p>Before re-creating any shot or image from a movie it is very necessary to study in details about the background, mid ground and href=\"http:\/\/www.animationkolkata.com\/multimedia-graphics-3d-animation-visual-effects-gaming-vfx.php\">MAAC<\/a> students to be re-created.<\/p>\n<p>In the above picture we can see a humanoid C-3PO <a href=\"http:\/\/www.animationkolkata.com\/blog\/2018\/05\/02\/cg-robots-creatures-hollywood\/\">robot<\/a> and one of our students.<\/p>\n<p>In the original shot actor <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Oscar_Isaac\">Oscar Isaac Hernandez Estrada<\/a> was there with the humanoid robot C-3PO.<\/p>\n<p>The first shot shows actor Oscar Isaac Hernandez Estrada talking to the humanoid robot C-3PO and the in the second image actor in working on this monitor.<\/p>\n<h2>Technical Breakdown<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter in front of the camera when the camera will start rolling.<\/p>\n<p>With reflectors at the back and properly lit set, team The Backbenchers\u2019 captured the first shot.<\/p>\n<p><img of our students with same dress code (brown jacket with logo) was inserted with in the shot.<\/p>\n<p>MAAC Students used Chroma Key Visual Effects technique to remove the background from the shot, this technique is used in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.animationkolkata.com\/blog\/2018\/04\/23\/significance-post-production-filmmaking\/\">post-production<\/a> stage.<\/p>\n<p>Chroma Key helps in layering of two images together based on colour range.<\/p>\n<p>C 3PO or Humanoid robot was Modeled in <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/List_of_3D_modeling_software\">3D software<\/a> then <a href=\"https:\/\/www.animationkolkata.com\/blog\/2018\/06\/13\/clues-improve-photography-3d-textures\/\">Texture<\/a> was added to the perfection and the movement was given to the robot through <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blenderguru.com\/tutorials\/introduction-to-camera-tracking\">Camera Tracking<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.animationkolkata.com\/blog\/2018\/10\/17\/rejuvenating-bygone-animation-technology\/\">Animation<\/a> so that the robot can move and talk with the student within the shot.<\/p>\n<p>The team made lot of adjustment in the student character such as skin tone and hair was modified to match it with actor Oscar Isaac Hernandez Estrada.<\/p>\n<p>At the post production stage, with the help of techniques such as Background Paint, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.animationkolkata.com\/blog\/2018\/11\/09\/software-required-motion-graphics\/\">Motion Graphics<\/a>, Adding C 3PO, Adding monitor, adding MAAC student as character, Wraping, Edge Light and Shadow and adding Grains the first two shot was recreated.<\/p>\n<p>Shot of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Adam_Driver\">Actor Adam Driver<\/a> was recreated by adding another student model.<\/p>\n<p>In the film Star War: The Last Jedi actor Adam appears with a Lightsaber in the fighting scene with Mark Hamill.<\/p>\n<p>Our student model with similar hair and dress style of actor Adam was added into the new shot.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-6957\" src=\"http:\/\/www.animationkolkata.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/620b7db5dbeaf7cf131adb5eb1042739-240x300.jpg\" alt=\"24 FPS VFX https:\/\/animationkolkata.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/620b7db5dbeaf7cf131adb5eb1042739.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 351px) 100vw, 351px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In the next shot actress <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Daisy_Ridley\">Daisy Jazz Isobel Ridley<\/a> was replaced by one of our female MAAC students.<\/p>\n<p>With the similar dress code and make-up the female student stand out in front of the camera with Green screen at the background.<\/p>\n<p>On the editing stage the Skin colour and Dress colour of the student character was adjusted, then the green screen background was removed.<\/p>\n<p>The team re-created the shot by adding Background Paint, Stone, Light, Debrish, Character, Glow, Rainbow and Grains.<\/p>\n<p>With all the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.animationkolkata.com\/blog\/2019\/01\/23\/frequently-used-software-vfx-cgi\/\">CG effects<\/a> the shot of moving stones all around actress Daisy Jazz Isobel Ridley was replaced by our female student model.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.animationkolkata.com\/blog\/2018\/03\/14\/aspects-cgi-animation\/\">CG<\/a> dust and debris were added.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-6953\" src=\"http:\/\/www.animationkolkata.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/6-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"24 FPS VFX Challenge 2018 @MaacChowringhee\" width=\"660\" height=\"372\" srcset=\"https:\/\/animationkolkata.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/6-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/animationkolkata.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/6-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/animationkolkata.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/6-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/animationkolkata.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/6.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 660px) 100vw, 660px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>To re-create the shot in which actor John Boyega and actor Oscar Isaac Hernandez Estrada is coming out of the rock cave, students worked on VFX and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.animationkolkata.com\/blog\/2018\/05\/29\/successful-concepts-polygon-modeling\/\">modeling<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Stones were modelled using 3D software and then proper shapes, colours and textures were added into the stones.<\/p>\n<p>Stones were created by adjusting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.animationkolkata.com\/blog\/2018\/05\/29\/successful-concepts-polygon-modeling\/\">polygon<\/a> and vertex in 3D software.<\/p>\n<p>Through Camera Tracking and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.animationkolkata.com\/blog\/2016\/09\/25\/animation-terminology-need-know\/\">Animation<\/a> movements were given to the stones.<\/p>\n<p>Background green screen was removed with the CG shot of cave, Student as character was added, Shadow, rocks and debris were also added.<\/p>\n<p>Each and every piece of stones were scaled, adjusted and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.animationkolkata.com\/blog\/2018\/03\/28\/forthcoming-animated-movies-hit-2018\/\">animated<\/a> to match the original.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" (max-width: 557px) 100vw, 557px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The above picture is re-created shot of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/John_Boyega\">actor John Boyega<\/a> and actor Oscar Isaac Hernandez Estrada coming out of the cave with moving rocks all around.<\/p>\n<p>For the bullet firing weapon shot the team Backbenchers\u2019 prepared the fresh model of the weapon in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.animationkolkata.com\/blog\/2018\/06\/05\/imperative-3d-modelling-beginners\/\">3D modelling<\/a> software.<\/p>\n<p>Weapon\u2019s height, diameter, length and weight were all matched with the original one.<\/p>\n<p>Artist worked on each single piece of the weapon, each part were created and fitted together, colour, shade and texture were adjusted.<\/p>\n<p><img the droid model of BB 9E which is an evil twin of BB 8 in the original movie of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Star_Wars:_The_Last_Jedi\">Star War: The Last Jedi<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>They first created the model or shape of BB 9E in the modelling software by adjusting polygons and vertex and then added texture and Lighting to BB 9E.<\/p>\n<p>Then the artists added the Computer generated duplicate background, object, Glow, Shadow and Grains to the shot.<\/p>\n<p>That is how students of MAAC Chowringhee centre created their short film 24 FPS VFX Challenge 2018 based on the original
